Parkinson's Awareness Month

Parkinson's Awareness Month was established in honor of James Parkinson, who first described the symptoms of the disease in 1817. April is also the birth month of James Parkinson.

Could it be Parkinson’s? What are the early signs?

It can be hard to tell if you or a loved one has Parkinson’s. PD is a neurodegenerative disorder that affects dopamine-producing neurons in the brain. Symptoms generally develop slowly over years and the progression of symptoms is often different from one person to another.

Here are 10 early signs of Parkinson’s:

Stress Awareness Month

Stress is our physical or mental response to challenging situations. Stress is universal, it’s something experienced across different ages and stages of life. For example, a tough assignment in school, a job interview, a difficult conversation with a family member, or running late for an event can all cause stress to individuals.

Careers in Aging Month

The demand for professionals with expertise in long term care is growing rapidly. The U.S. will need between 5.7 million and 6.5 million nurses, nurse aides, home health, and personal care workers to care for the 27 million Americans who will require long term care by 2050.

Careers in Aging Month is dedicated to bringing greater awareness and visibility to the wide-ranging career opportunities in long term care and aging services, and to celebrate current employees in the profession.

Sen. Amy Klobuchar visit

On February 2nd, Mount Olivet Careview Home had the privilege of hosting U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar to celebrate key milestones of the Inflation Reduction Act. Last month, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) unveiled the list of 15 drugs that Medicare will now be able to negotiate prices with pharmaceutical companies. In her speech, Senator Klobuchar highlighted that the 10 drugs announced in August 2024 alone are expected to save seniors around $1.5 billion by 2026.

American Heart Month

American Heart Month was established by President Lyndon B. Johnson. In his remarks announcing February 1964 as the first American Heart Month, President Johnson urged “the people of the United States to give heed to the nationwide problem of the heart and blood-vessel diseases, and to support the programs required to bring about its solution.” Johnson’s action marked a pivotal point in the nation’s approach to addressing cardiovascular disease.
