Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon
Our 2017 Volunteers of the Year!
Mount Olivet Home and Mount Olivet Careview Home
Helen Marlin began volunteering at Mount Olivet Homes 11 years ago after retiring as an RN at Abbott Northwestern Hospital. She believes no institution can function without the help of volunteers.. For Helen, a memorable volunteer moment is related to music. "One resident who was no longer able to verbally communicate, sang the "Star Spangled Banner" perfectly," explained Helen. Helen's favorite volunteer task is assisting on resident outings in the community. She explains, "residents have been shut in and just to get out, even if it is just a drive around the lakes." What keeps Helen coming back to volunteer is that her husband was a resdient, and he was given such good care. Helen believes the importance of volunteering to be "helping others helps yourself."
